Project Gutenberg: Over 60,000 free e-books are available to read online and to print.  All titles are in the public domain, and therefore FREE in every sense.

Project Gutenberg Self-Publishing Press: This free catalog features books in many languages and has self-published authors if you are looking for a more contemporary publication.

LibriVox: Looking for an audiobook? This site offers public-domain titles read by volunteers from around the world. Books are available for immediate listening, or to download for later listening. Over 16,000 titles have been cataloged, with over 2,000 foreign language titles.

Florida Electronic Library: The Florida Electronic Library (FEL) is a gateway to: electronic magazines, newspapers, almanacs, encyclopedias and books, the Ask a Librarian reference service, and educational and business resources.

Florida Division of Libraries and State Archives: Use this resource to search through Florida library catalogs. You can sign up for a State of Florida library card, and also view historically significant records of the state, private manuscripts, local government records, photographs, and other materials that complement the official state records.

Florida Memory Project: Free online access to select archival resources from the collections of the State Library and Archives of Florida which illuminate significant events and individuals in the state’s history, and help educate about Florida history and culture.

Florida Digital Newspaper Library: access to the news and history of Florida. Over 1.5 million pages of historic through current Florida newspapers are openly and freely available with zoomable page images and full text.

Library of Congress: The nation’s oldest federal cultural institution and the research arm of Congress. The largest library in the world, with millions of books, recordings, photographs, maps and manuscripts in its collections.

Apalachicola Historical Society: A 501.c(3) non-profit, whose mission is to collect and distribute information of the history of the City of Apalachicola. Members are history enthusiasts who appreciate the culture, lore and heritage of this town’s rich history.

Book Lists

Newbery Medal Books: Named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

Caldecott Medal Books: Named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott, it is awarded annually to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
